Today I am saddened by the news of a great author, Liz Curtis Higgs, has been diagnosed with cancer. This is her second round with this dreaded disease. Cancer is a horrible disease. My prayer list has so many people on it with cancer. She is such a sweet lady. I started reading her books years ago. I am of Scottish decent and so is she. We had several emails about Scotland. The first time I met her was at an American Christian Fiction Writers conference. She spilled tea on her white skirt and asked, “What state does this remind you of?” Totally sweet and crazy person.
The school shooting is on all of our minds right now. A little over two weeks, two of our grandchildren were present when a shooter began shooting at Marshall County High School in Benton, KY where we live. It’s been a long time since I felt the fear that I felt that day. The kids are gradually healing. In fact one of them told me the other night, “I’m tired of all the talk. I want to get back to normal.” It does get old for those involved. We were lucky. Our grandson was in the area where the shooting took place, but he wasn’t hurt. Our granddaughter was next door in the library. She was also fine. One thing I’ve noticed with both shootings, the shooter tried to blend in with the students after the shooting.
It isn’t guns, it’s the person holding the gun that kills. You may outlaw guns, but a person who wants to kill will find other ways, knives, cars, trucks, bombs, anything you can name. We can’t outlaw everything. I do not believe automatic rifles should be sold to the public, but I heard the other day that pistols kill more people than automatic rifles.
We live in a time where God is not recognized in homes, schools, government, and businesses. I’m proud to say we have a business based on Christian principles. I want God in all of our lives.
Have a blessed weekend.
