Yesterday I received the last book my friend Sandra Robbins wrote for publication. Sandra wrote for Love Inspired and probably did about four books a year with them. I know she did have future contracts with them before she passed away.
Last year Sandra called me and said, “Love Inspired wants me to write a book about kidnapped babies. I don’t know if I can do that or not. I don’t want babies hurt.” This is a series of books about children being kidnapped that they were publishing, and I think this one may be the first. We talked about how and why the babies could be kidnapped. Money was the only thing I saw that would make someone kidnap a baby, but these are twins. We talked about different ways the babies would end up kidnapped and finally settled on a plan.
Yesterday I received my Kindle copy, and it broke my heart to realize it was my friend’s last book. Her husband called the other night to tell me he had one of the print copies saved for me. I know I’ll cry when I hold it in my hand, and I’ll probably be a slobbering mess as I read the book. I think the book goes on sale March 6. I’m happy to think I was a part of Guarding the Babies. I’m also sad to think about the books Sandra could have written.
After being named guardian of her late sister’s orphaned twins, Holly Lee soon learns someone will go to any lengths to steal the children away. Rescuing the toddlers from an attempted kidnapping, she’s reunited with her ex-boyfriend Deputy Sheriff Cole Jackson. Cole feels obligated to protect Holly and her niece and nephew, but professional boundaries begin to blur as their enemy shifts into stark focus.
