This week on the podcast we’re talking about marketing. Marketing is something most people don’t understand how to start. The podcast with DiAnn Mills today explains how new writers should start their marketing. It’s so easy. You must build your brand by getting yourself known. The best way to get known is by social medial. Most of us have access to Facebook and Twitter, so why not take advantage of this free avenue of marketing? If you haven’t listened to the podcast, you can by clicking here.
Marketing is all up to you. People can tell you how to do it, but it’s up to you to follow through with the example others give you. There are books to read, classes to take, and any number of blogs out there to tell you about marketing. If you don’t carry through you have missed so much.
Your book should be outstanding to encourage people to buy it and make interesting reviews. Word or mouth plays a big part in marketing. You don’t have to stand on the street corner with a bell telling everyone about your book, but if it is good people will recommend it. We’ve all read badly written books. Did you tell anyone to buy a book that is written badly? Probably not. If you want your book to sell, then you must make it shine.
Spend time learning the craft. Even authors who have sold millions of books still study the craft. New books are coming out constantly about writing. Take advantage of them. If you can’t buy a paperback, get an ebook. Learn all you can. A brain surgeon didn’t start operating the minute he decided to be a brain surgeon. He had to learn the craft. It’s the same with writing. We have to learn the craft to be a good writer.
No matter where you are in your writing career increase your social media platform. Make sure you post on Facebook and Twitter each day. Ask questions where people will become involved. Look for something interesting to write about each day. It’s not about you and your book, but about the reader. Start building or increasing that platform now.
