Weekends for me is a time of play. We have several nights during the week that we attend football games. Our youngest grandson plays on the Jr. Varsity Team and the Freshman Team. He also has to dress out for all the varsity games. If you are counting like I am, that’s three nights a week we go to football games. The oldest grandson is on the Varsity Team. He’s a senior and hopes to get a football scholarship.
That is my play, but I also work each day. We do take a day off once in a while for doctor appointments and grocery shopping. But other than that, I’m at the computer about eight to ten hours a day. Right now we have manuscripts flying in, which is good. I have one I’m working on and another that releases in November. I received the final edit this morning. This is what I always wanted to do.
When we started the company almost six years ago, it seemed like we’d never be this busy. We are now. At this moment we have two openings in 2018, and we have already taken one in 2019. How do I work my day?
After breakfast I usually read the Bible. We have certain books we read each month, and I try to get my reading in early. This morning I also read a commentary on the first chapter of Hosea. I have to spend time with the Lord early before my day gets started. After that I also play some mind games. It helps to get my brain working. Then I get dressed and start working. I do take an hour or so for lunch. On my lunch break I try to read a little in a book I’ve downloaded. Right now I’m reading about how to write a blog.
My afternoon is spent in reading manuscripts, editing, or some kind of writing. I get a little blogged down at times, but I still like to keep updated on what’s happening in publishing. After dinner I usually work a little more with edits or writing on my book.
What makes me want to get up in the morning and get busy? I love helping authors find their way in the publishing industry. It is so hard for a new author to get a contract and learn how to write. I hope we are doing just that.
