Several times in the past years I have seen God bring people into my life I would never have known otherwise. I do believe God places people around us to encourage and help us.
In 2009 I attended my first American Christian Fiction Writers Conference in Denver, Colorado. The first day, as we went down to breakfast, I met a lady in the elevator. She introduced herself as Sandra Robbins, and she lived in Tennessee. I was living there also at that time. We left the elevator and entered the dining room for breakfast. I sat down at a table and took a tissue out of my purse. I heard a noise and looked around to see Sandra on the floor, passed out. Someone asked for a tissue and I handed her mine, which was never used. Sandra and I became great friends. She encouraged me to do more than I thought I could. She was always telling me how great our business was, and how I could write more. It’s been hard for me since Sandra passed away in January. Every time I think I can’t do something, I can hear Sandra saying, “You can do it Kathy.” I know God placed her in my life to encourage me and push me to do better with the talents God gave me.
Another person who entered my life was partly because of Sandra. Sandra had always wanted us to have a conference for writers. We began by having small ones with our writers group. One year Sandra said, “We need to invite Patricia Bradley.” We did and through that invitation, Patricia has been my encourager. She has been instrumental in inviting me to another conference to take interviews. She’s also encouraged me in my writing.
There is one more person I met through Sandra’s effort to open our conference to more people, Linda Fulkerson. Linda has become a great friend and confident. My daughter, my husband, and I returned Sunday night from a conference that Linda had invited me to, Arkansas ACFW Retreat. Through Linda I met more people, and I hope I have influenced them to write better.
You never know who will pop up in your life. God is always working. Without these three people in my life, I doubt if I would be where I am today. God is wonderful, and He’s blessed me abundantly.
