The title doesn’t mean that people will walk up to you and start talking. It means name recognition. Most of us buy books from people we know, have read their blogs, recognize as a Facebook or Twitter writer, or a recommendation from a friend. One time I received a book from Amazon from a writer I did not know. It was filled with sex that I didn’t need to know about. I never read through the first chapter. In fact I deleted it from my Kindle list. Never again will I buy anything from someone I don’t know.
The best way to be known by writers is social media. The more your name is on social media, the more people will recognize it. Publishers and agents notice the number of friends you have on social media. I don’t communicate with everyone. In fact I don’t know everyone. Some of the names I don’t recognize. Most of the friends I have don’t read all of my emails, but I am still in their friend list. My name is out there.
When I put something on Facebook, I try to answer each comment. If I don’t it’s because I’m busy and didn’t do anything on the computer that day. Social media helps to build our platform. It’s almost a necessity to be on at least one social media.
Do you talk about your book on social media? Sure. Let people know you are writing a book but don’t give the details. We want our friends to buy our book. Sales numbers talk. Don’t give a large number of books away.
This is one important thing about selling yourself and your books. Be recognized by your fellow writers and friends. Take a few minutes and write something on Facebook each day.
